Language & Enrichment
WORLD LANGUAGES & ENRICHMENT
Students who score proficient or advanced in ELA and Math are enrolled in a daily enrichment block in addition to all other courses. The enrichment block is designed to address deeper critical thinking skills and advanced coursework.
Students have the opportunity to learn a World Language through PowerspeaK¹², a division of Middlebury Interactive Languages. Students can take Spanish, French, Chinese, German, or Latin.
In addition, all students participate in grade-level science labs and mathematics work, and there is in-depth geography study which culminates in the participation in the National Geography Bee. The following are specific grade-level topics covered during the year:
6th Grade: Fantasy Football Mathematics, Murder Mystery Math, Romeo and Juliet, and Greek Reader's Theater.
7th Grade: Journalism/School Newspaper, Fantasy Football Mathematics, Hip Hop and the Classics, Poetry Slam, and Computer Programming and Animation.
8th Grade: Advanced Mathematics, Career Passports, Public Speaking, Poetry Slam, Resume Writing, and High School Exploration.
